But did you know you can also define which types of employees use LeaveMaster?

Using LeaveMaster’s employee types feature, you or your Systems Administrator can easily set up employee types such as full-time employees, part-time employees and freelance employees. In the Users section, you can then attribute an employee type to every LeaveMaster user and set how many days of leave that user is permitted to take in a year.

British businesses have been urged to start thinking about how they are going to manage leave during the London 2012 Olympics.

Talking to Personnel Today  last week, Heather Hancock at Deloitte suggested that, with a high number of employees likely to want to take time off to watch the Games, companies should put a leave management policy in place for the Olympics sooner rather than later.

She also urged businesses to start thinking about how to handle a high volume of requests for leave during the games period and whether to let staff work flexibly or remotely so they can watch Olympic events and remain productive.

In blog posts earlier this year, we discussed how easy it is to add new users  to LeaveMaster and create new user types. But it also couldn’t be easier to amend user accounts.

If you need to amend the account details of any LeaveMaster user, all you or your Systems Administrator need to do is go to the Systems Administration section of LeaveMaster and choose Users.

You will then be able to scroll down a list of all LeaveMaster users in your organisation or use a search box to easily find the user whose account details you wish to amend. Then simply click on an icon next to the user’s name and the user’s account details will appear in your browser for you to amend.

You can quickly and easily change an employee’s annual leave entitlements for a leave type, give an employee more or less days’ leave than the standard amount allowed in your organisation, change who authorises an employee’s leave, and more.

As we reported in an earlier blog, the UK government has set up an independent review that will examine the issue of sickness absence in the workplace.

According to new details released about its remit, the independent review will examine absenteeism patterns and trends in both the public and the private sectors, as well as sickness absence practices in different segments of the private sector.  

The review will release a report on its findings later this year.

According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), sickness absence is rising amongst UK employees.

During the recession, only 2.1% of UK employees surveyed by the ONS had taken at least one day off sick in the week before they were interviewed. However, this has now risen to 2.5%.

The latest figures also reveal that between October and December of last year, two million working days were lost as a result of absence, with an average of 613,000 employees off sick every week.
